Timberline Lodge National Historical Landmark
503-622-7979, www.timberlinelodge.com
Hand crafted by WPA artisans and dedicated by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on September 27, 1937, Timberline Lodge was hewn by public workers and contains museum quality original paintings, carved linoleum, mosaic glass, sculpted wood, stone and metal works.
The Lodge is a prime example of Cascadian architecture and craftsmanship. The Rachael Griffin Historic Exhibition Center features an authentic replication of a guest room as it would have appeared in 1937. All furnishings, including the hand-woven fabrics and hand-hooked rugs are original WPA pieces. A documentary film detailing the building of the lodge is on continuous loop in the main lobby.
Free interpretive tours are available during the summer season.
